Online course

DAHLIA SWEET NATHALIE

Ideal for Intermediate students (or students with previous experience making paper flowers).

This course has over 200 minutes of video instruction and includes a written cheatsheet of measurements.

Over the years, Jessie has worked on perfecting the colouring and details of this decorative dahlia. She once grew these Sweet Nathalie dahlias and she was at once fascinated by its unique colouring. Some are mostly ivory in colour, some have a lot of pink in them, and some are a mix of the two. They coordinate wonderfully with other blush-coloured or ivory-cream-coloured flowers like Cafe au Last Dahlias or garden roses. They even work well with pink-purple dahlias. Their spiral pattern has incredible textural interest and creates a depth in the silhouette of the flower that no other flower can imitate.

In this course, you will

  • Learn my standard formula of making a dahlia with a spherical silhouette

  • Receive a Cheatsheet with all of the measurements you’ll need to freehand cut the petals

  • Learn my colour recipe and colouring technique to achieve a realistic-looking Dahlia Sweet Nathalie

  • Learn how I use fine art principles to colour my dahlias to create dimension, depth, and realism

  • Learn how to make a dahlia bud to complement the bloom

  • Learn how to easily create a thicker stem

  • Learn how to freehand cut effectively and efficiently

Jessie’s formula and technique has never failed her and very time she makes these dahlias, she finishes with consistent results. Follow along as she creates one of her signature paper flowers and you will too.

ONLINE COURSE

DISTANT DRUMS ROSE

Ideal for Intermediate students (or students with previous experience making paper flowers)

In this course, you will learn Jessie’s unique technique of creating a stamen that allows the petals to swirl organically outwards from the flower centre. You will also learn the trick to rose petal placement - the trickiest part of making a floribunda rose - so that the petals look naturally placed, yet deliberate. Some of the other skills and techniques you will learn:

  • To make a fringed stamen

  • To colour your stamen with a common seasoning

  • To reduce bulk on the stems

  • To create a natural-looking swirled centre with petals

  • To manipulate petals so they look natural

  • To tint the petals

  • To create a generic leaf stem for roses

This was one of Jessie’s breakthrough flowers and it changed the way she thought of flower construction, and ultimately elevated her paper floral artistry. She has been able to transfer many of the skills she learned from designing this flower to other types of roses and flowers. This might be the breakthrough flower for you too!

ONLINE COURSE

FOXGLOVES

Ideal for Intermediate students (or students with previous experience making paper flowers).

In this course, you will learn how to make amazingly realistic-looking common foxgloves (Digitalis purpurea) at your own time and pace. Jessie first teaches you the basics of how she makes her version of ‘Dalmatian White’ from template to assembly. Then, she will show you how to make 2 other versions, the ‘Camelot Rose’ foxglove and the ‘Apricot Beauty’ foxglove, using this general formula.

You’ll learn and perfect the following skills and techniques:

  • The basic formula to make Jessie’s 'Dalmatian White' Foxgloves

  • 2 additional variations of foxgloves, namely, the 'Camelot Rose' and 'Apricot Beauty'

  • Using colour to imitate the stages of progression from bud to maturity;

  • Creating buds and blooms in different sizes to mimic the stages of maturity;

  • Creating realistic petal details using tools you already have or can easily access;

  • Assembling the buds and blooms in a natural spire shape.

Jessie has taught this flower at a workshop so she’s been able to perfect the formula so that every student, beginners or intermediate or advanced, will end up with stunning results within a few hours.

  • How to make a stamen and create the pollen from pastels

  • How to cut petals and colour them for detail

  • How to manipulate the flower petals to look real

  • How to assemble the petals to the stem to create a "perpetual overlap" of naturally-looking petals

  • How to make a standard flower or rose leaf stem

This course is perfect for Beginners. Intermediates and Advanced paper florists and/or crafters will also find this course helpful and insightful.
